Face shovel training is a compulsory course in South Africa for every person that wants to operate a face shovel. This is usually done prior to obtaining a face shovel licence.
We will teach you the basics of face shovel equipment and get you ready for your face shovel licence exam. To get a face shovel licence in South Africa you must pass a face shovel theory exam, practical exam and background check.
Applicants will be able to apply for the face shovel theory test after successfully completing the training course. The pass rate for the theory test is 70%.
There are several types of face shovels that can be used in South Africa. The most common is the backhoe or excavator mounted, pneumatic or hydraulic type. Another kind is the trailer mounted, this is usually for loading or transporting dirt, sand, gravel and other aggregates.
The Training is aimed at being the most efficient, effective and economical means of rendering assistance to someone buried under an avalanche. The training is conducted on a simulated victim buried under a four meter long avalanche of snow. The training has proven to be a very valuable and worthwhile investment which leads to time and money savings in the event of a real rescue situation.
The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) has officially authorized us to teach the National Qualifications Framework. This certification is valid within South Africa and will enable you to apply for your NQF certificate within 24-48 hours. Operators will be tested on their knowledge of the Face Shovel Road Traffic Act and Policy. This information is aimed at ensuring the operator has a comprehensive understanding of the use of this piece of equipment and complies with the standards set out by LAW.
